Tournament Guidelines

General Rules

1. Tournament Composition

  • (1) The tournament shall consists of preliminary rounds for Okinawa and preliminary rounds for mainland Japan/overseas, and the main tournament.
  • (2) Those who have passed the preliminary rounds for Okinawa and preliminary rounds for mainland Japan/overseas can advance to the main tournament. The number of competitors who can advance to the main tournament from each preliminary round will be decided by The 1st Okinawa Karate World Junior Tournament Executive Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Executive Committee") according to the number of participating competitors.

2. Categories/Events

The categories and events of the competition shall be as shown in the table below.

3. Entry Qualifications

  • (1) Age *Ages besed as of April 1, 2022
    • a. Boys and Girls I: 6 - 7 years old
    • b. Boys and Girls Ⅱ: 8 - 9 years old
    • c. Boys and Girls Ⅲ: 10 - 11 years old
    • d. Boys I: 12 - 14 years old
    • d. Girls I: 12 - 14 years old
  • (2) As a general rule, those who live in Okinawa (including Japanese citizens with foreign nationality) at the time of application are eligible for participation in the preliminary rounds for Okinawa, and those who live in mainland Japan or overseas at the time of application are eligible for participation in the preliminary rounds for mainland Japan/overseas. In addition, it is not possible to apply for both preliminary rounds.
  • (3) The participant may participate in one category of "Shuri-te kei/Tomari-te kei",
    "Naha-te kei", "Uechi-ryu kei" and "Kobudo (Bo)" category as well.
  • (4) Participants shall strive to manage their own health, such as having a medical check-up in advance (submitting a medical certificate, etc., is unnecessary.)

4. Implementation Method

The competition shall be held in accordance with The 1st Okinawa Karate World Junior Tournament's Competition Rules and Regulations.

Preliminary Rounds for Okinawa

1. Date

January 22 (Sat), 29 (Sat), 30 (Sun), 2022
February 5 (Sat), 6 (Sun), 11 (Fri), 13 (Sun), 19 (Sat), 20 (Sun), 26 (Sat), 27 (Sun), March 5 (Sat) , 2022
*Depending on the number of applications, preliminary rounds for Okinawa will be held within the above schedule.

2. Venue

Okinawa Karate Kaikan, Okinawa Prefectural Hall of Martial Arts (Budokan)

3. Competition Procedure

  • (1) The competition will be conducted by a scoring system.
  • (2) The first round will be conducted by scoring of all competitors in the event, and the order of performances will be decided by the Executive Committee.
  • (3) From the second round, a group tournament system will be adopted. Tournament groups combinations will be decided by the Executive Committee.
  • (4) The Executive Committee will determine the number of competitors able to advance to the second round and the main tournament.

4. Admission Fee

The admission fee is 3,000 yen (including entrance fee and accident insurance fee).
*The same fee will be charged for participation in two categories.

5. Selection Method

The highest-ranking competitors of the group tournament will be able to advance to the main
tournament.

6. Registration Procedures

  • (1) In principle, application is possible through the official Registration entry form detailed below, and the application will be accepted when payment of the admission fee is confirmed.

  • (2) If it is difficult to apply through the website and the Executive Committee allows, participants may bring or mail the required application form filled out with the necessary information to the following Executive Committee Secretariat to apply.

  • (3) The application deadline through the website will be till Monday, December 20, 2021, and till 17:00 on the same day if participants will apply by mail or bring their application directly to the Executive Committee Secretariat.
  • (4) Change of competitors after the deadline will not be accepted.
  • (5) The entry fee is not refundable if the participant cancels the application after the deadline.

7. Registration of Competitors

Those planning to participate in the preliminary rounds for Okinawa must register for participation and receive the ID card.

Preliminary Rounds for Mainland Japan and Overseas

1. Date

Tuesday, August 2, 2022

2. Venue

Okinawa Karate Kaikan, Okinawa Prefectural Hall of Martial Arts (Budokan)

3. Competition Procedure

  • (1) The competition will be conducted by a scoring system.
  • (2) In the case of the event, where the number of competitors in each round is smaller than the number of competitors in the final round, preliminary rounds will not be carried out for that event.
  • (3) The first round will be conducted by scoring of all competitors in the event, and the order of performances will be decided by the Executive Committee.

    We have decided to extend the tournament application deadline to 23:59 on 14 June 2022 (Tuesday) for overseas participants only.
  • (4) From the second round, a group tournament system will be adopted. Tournament groups combinations will be decided by the Executive Committee.
  • (5) The Executive Committee will determine the number of competitors able to advance to the second round and the main tournament.

Main Tournament

1. Date

Wednesday, August 3, 2022

2. Venue

Okinawa Karate Kaikan, Okinawa Prefectural Hall of Martial Arts (Budokan)

3. Competition Procedure

  • (1) The main tournament will be conducted by a single-elimination tournament system among the qualified competitors from the preliminary rounds for Okinawa and mainland Japan/overseas, and the win or lose will be determined by the scoring system.
  • (2) The single-elimination tournament matches will be decided by the Executive Committee based on the results of the preliminary rounds for Okinawa and mainland Japan/overseas.

4. Registration of Competitors

Qualified competitors from the preliminary rounds for Okinawa planinng to participate in the main tournament must register for participation and receive the ID card. (It is unnecessary for those who advanced to the main tournament from the preliminary rounds for maindland Japan/overseas to register again.)
