1 Purpose of the Tournament

The purpose of holding the Okinawa Karate World Tournament is to create a place where Okinawa karate enthusiasts from all over the world can gather in Okinawa, the birthplace of karate, to deepen exchanges, to properly preserve and pass on the techniques and spirit of Okinawa karate that have been systematized and inherited to the present by our predecessors, and to promote the future of traditional Okinawa karate and kobujutsu.

2 Name of Tournament

  1. Open to participating competitors aged 14 and below: Okinawa Karate World Junior Tournament
  2. Open to participating competitors aged 15 and above: Okinawa Karate World Tournament
  3. The name of each tournament shall be preceded by a number indicating its iteration.

5 Contents

(1) Opening and closing ceremonies (including award ceremonies)
Opening and closing ceremonies (including award ceremonies) will be held in a manner appropriate for Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate, with the aim of introducing Okinawa’s traditional culture and developing internationally competent human resources.
(2) Demonstrations
Intercultural demonstrations will be held with the aim of deepening international exchange and technical exchange among participating competitors and karate enthusiasts from Okinawa, mainland Japan, and abroad, as well as generating greater momentum for the Tournament.
(3) Tournament
A tournament (Kata) will be held with the aim of preserving and passing on traditional kata that have been handed down to the present day in Okinawa and honing technical skills.
(4) Okinawa Karate Seminar
The Okinawa Karate Seminar will be held for participating competitors and karate enthusiasts from Japan and all over the world, with the aim of deepening the traditional techniques and spirituality systematized in Okinawa.
(5) Exchange meetings
Exchange meetings will be held with the aim of commending one another’s good effort at the Tournament, deepening exchange among participating competitors and affiliated parties from domestic and overseas, as well as promoting and developing Okinawa Karate moving forward.

6 Organizer

The Okinawa Karate World Tournament Executive Committee, Okinawa Prefecture, Okinawa Dento Karatedo Shinkokai

7 Supporting organizations

Requests will be made to the national government, municipalities, local news media, and local economic organizations, etc. for support for each tournament.

8 Accommodation and Access

(1) Accommodation
All domestic and overseas participants, including competitors, coaches, invitees, etc. (hereinafter referred to as “domestic and overseas participants”) shall secure their own accommodations.
(2) Access
All domestic and overseas participants shall use public transportation to travel to and from the venue of the tournament, and shall bear their own expenses for such transportation. However, a free shuttle bus service shall be provided when deemed necessary by the Tournament Executive Committee.

9 Promotional Structure

A Tournament Implementation Headquarters shall be established to oversee the necessary operations pertaining to the preparation and running of the tournament.

10 Others

In addition to the provisions of these guidelines, all other matters necessary for the running of the tournament shall be determined separately by the Executive Committee.
