Participation Application (Competition)

Q. Can I apply for both karate and kobudo?

A. No, you cannot apply more than two events, so please choose one.

Q. Although I live outside Okinawa Prefecture, I would like to participate in the preliminary rounds in Okinawa because I will be staying in Okinawa during the preliminary rounds in March. Is it possible?

A. For preliminary rounds in Okinawa (held in March), and preliminary rounds in mainland Japan & overseas (held in August), you must choose either one based on the address where you live at the time of application. In case you are staying in Okinawa Prefecture during preliminary rounds in Okinawa, you can participate in preliminary rounds in Okinawa. (Please note that you cannot enter duplicates in the two preliminaries.)

Q. I live in a island of Okinawa Prefecture. To save my transportation expenses, I’m considering that I will participate in the preliminary rounds in mainland Japan & overseas in August instead of March, and will participate in the main tournament after that. Is it possible to participate in mainland Japan & overseas preliminary rounds although I live in Okinawa?

A. Yes, you can participate in preliminary rounds in mainland Japan & overseas in August. (Please note that you cannot enter duplicates in the two preliminaries.)

Q. Are there a Dan or Kyu qualification requirements to participate in the competition? And, will the competition be carried out separately for each Dan or Kyu?

A. There are no Dan or Kyu qualification requirements for participation in the competition. And the competition will be carried out in one tournament in one event. (It will not be carried out for each Dan or Kyu.)

Participation Application (Okinawa Karate Seminar)

Q. Can I participate in a seminar other than the ryuha that I belong to? And, are there any requirements for participation?

A. Participation from other ryuha is also accptable for the seminar. And there is no qualification requirements such as Dan or age.

Regarding Visa

Q. I need a statement of reasons for invitation to obtain a visa. Will the Tournament Executive Committee issue that?

A. For those who have confimed participation in the competition or seminar and payment of participation fee, the Tournament Executive Committee will issue a statement of reasons of invitation. If you’d like us to issue a statement, please copy the page with your face photo on your passport and send it to the following fax number. Q. Can the Tournament Executive Committee issue a personal reference letter for obtaining a visa?

A. No, the Tournament Executive Committee cannot issue a personal reference letter.

Official Uniform

Q. Regarding the competitors’ uniform, the Competition Rules and Regulations says that “It is permitted to bear ryuha/kaiha emblems, country flags (excluding the prefectural emblem of Okinawa), and national emblems on only left chest of karate-gi.” Can I put the personal name at the hem of the jacket (the upper part of the trademark labels of manufactures)?

A. Yes, it is permitted to put the personal name at the hem of the jacket.

Q. If there is a ryuha/kaiha emblems, etc., other than the left chest of karate-gi, do I have to purchase a new karate-gi?

A. You can cover up with a white tape or white cloth on a emblem, etc., other than the left chest of karate-gi. You don’t have to purchase a new karate-gi to participate in the competition.

Q. Are there restrictions on embroidery on the belt? Is it OK if my personal name or ryuha name be embroidered on a belt?

A. There are no restrictions on embroidery on the belt.

Schedule

Q. Do you have a detailed schedule for preliminary rounds in Okinawa in March? Please let me know the schedule of Shuri-te kei and Tomari-te kei if you have.

A. The preliminary rounds in Okinawa will be held on March 24th and 25th. Detailed schedule will be announced at the tournament website as soon as it is decided. Also, we will send the program with a competitor number exchange certificate and other documents to participants for the preliminariy rounds in Okinawa in around the beginning of March. (In case of application by group or organiation, we will send them to the representative in a lump.)

Q. I’d like to make a reservaion for an airplane and hotel, so please let me know the detailed schedule in August.

A. Detailed schedule of the main tournament in August will be decided around April or May after the registration of participation application is closed. We will notify through our tournament website as soon as we are decided, so please visit our HP and check it.

Registration

Q. I have applied for preliminary rounds in mainland Japan & overseas on August 2nd. The Competition Guidelines says that it is necessary to register for participation on August 1st, however I cannot register on that day because I live outside Okinawa Prefecture. In that case, can I register on the day of the competition.

A. Yes, you can register on the day of the competition.
Competitors should register for preliminary rounds in Okinawa in March, preliminary rounds in mainland Japan & overseas and Okinawa Karate Seminar in August, by the day before the opening of each event. However, if it is difficult to register by the day before each event as you live in a remote area, you can register on the day.

Q. What do I need to prepare for the registation?

A. Please bring the following documents.
* A reservation confirmaiton form (a form which produced from the Tournament website at the time of application.)
* A competitor number exchange certificate
* Identification card (driver’s license, passport, etc.) Overseas participants are required to bring passports. Copy is allowed.

Q. Is it possible to register several competitors by a representative in a lump.

A. A representative can register all at once. In that case, please bring the following documents for all competitors to register.
* A reservation confirmation form (a form which produced from the Tournament website at the time of application.)
* A competitor number exchage certificate
* Identification card (driver’s license, passport, etc.) Overseas participants are required to bring passports. Copy is allowed.
