The 1st Okinawa Karate International Tournament Competition Guidelines
Ⅰ General Rules
1. Tournament Composition
- The tournament shall consist of preliminary rounds in Okinawa and overseas/mainland Japan, and the main tournament.
- Higher-ranking competitors of the preliminary rounds in Okinawa and overseas/mainland Japan can advance to the main tournament. The number of qualifiers for the main tournament from each preliminary will be decided by The 1st Okinawa Karate International Tournament Executive Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Executive Committee”) according to the number of participants.
2. Categories/Events
The categories and events of the competition shall be as shown in the table below.
3. Entry Qualifications
- Age
a. Juniors: over 15 years old and under 18 years old, as of April 1, 2018.
b. Adults I: over 18 years old and under 40 years old, as of April 1, 2018.
c. Adults II: over 40 years old and under 60 years old, as of April 1, 2018.
d. Seniors: over 60 years old, as of April 1, 2018. - As a general rule, the entry qualification of the preliminary round in Okinawa will be those who live in Okinawa at the time of application (including Japanese citizens with foreign nationality), and entry qualifications for overseas/mainland Japan preliminaries are those who live outside Okinawa. In addition, competitors are unable to apply for both qualifiers.
- Duplicate participation in two or more events is forbidden.
- Referees cannot participate in the competition.
- Participants shall strive to manage their own health, such as having a medical check-up in advance (submitting a medical certificate, etc. is unnecessary.)
4. Implementation Method
The competition shall be held in accordance with the 1st Okinawa Karate International Tournament rules and regulations.
Ⅱ Preliminary Rounds in Okinawa
- Date
Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25, 2018 - Venue
Okinawa Karate Kaikan, Okinawa Prefectural Hall of Martial Arts (Budokan) - Competition Procedure
- The 1st round will be conducted by a scoring system, and high-scoring competitors can advance into the 2nd round.
- The 2nd round is a flag system (tournament), and decides victory or defeat by red/white flag.
- The Executive Committee will decide the performance order of the 1st round and the tournament combinations after the 2nd round.
- Admission fee
The admission fee is 3,000 yen (including entrance fee and accident insurance premium). - Selection Process
- Higher-ranking competitors among the tournament can advance to the main tournament.
- In order to select seeded players at the tournament, we will carry out up to the final round and third place match for all events.
- Registration Procedures
- In principle, participants should apply through the official tournament website detailed below, and the application will be accepted when payment of the admission fee is confirmed by the Executive Committee.

Tel : 098-866-2232 FAX : 098-866-2208 - The application deadline through the homepage will be Wednesday, January 31st, 2018, and will be 17:00 on the same day if participants prefer to mail or bring their application directly to the Executive Committee Secretariat.
- Change of competitors after the deadline will not be accepted.
- The entry fee is not refundable should the participant withdraw after the deadline.
- In principle, participants should apply through the official tournament website detailed below, and the application will be accepted when payment of the admission fee is confirmed by the Executive Committee.
- Registration
Those planning to participate in the preliminary round in Okinawa must register for participation and receive the ID card.

c. Required documents:- Certificate (a confirmation which will be produced from the homepage during registration)
- Identification card (driver’s license, passport, etc.)

Ⅲ Preliminary Rounds in Mainland Japan and Overseas
- Date
Thursday, August 2, Friday August 3, 2018 - Venue

- The competition will be conducted by a scoring system.
- In the case of the number of participants in each event being less than the number of participants in the final round, preliminary rounds will not be carried out for that event.
- The Executive Committee will decide the performance order.
- Admission fee
The admission fee is 3,000 yen (including entrance fee and accident insurance premium). - Selection Method
Higher-ranking competitors among the preliminary rounds in mainland Japan and overseas tournament can advance to the main tournament. - Registration Procedure

- The main tournament will be conducted by a tournament among the higher-ranking competitors of the preliminary rounds in Okinawa and mainland Japan/overseas, and will decide victory or defeat by red/white flag.
- The tournament matches will be decided by the Executive Committee based on the results of the preliminary rounds in Okinawa and mainland Japan/overseas.
- Registration
Those planning to participate in the preliminary round in Okinawa must register for participation and receive the ID card. (It is unnecessary for those who advanced to the main tournament from the mainland Japan/overseas preliminaries to register again.)
