The 2nd Okinawa Karate World Junior Tournament Competition Guidelines

Ⅰ General Rules

1. Tournament Composition

(1) The tournament shall consists of preliminary rounds for Okinawa; preliminary rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa; and the main tournament.
(2) Those who have passed the preliminary rounds for Okinawa; preliminary rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa can advance to the main tournament. The number of competitors who can advance to the main tournament from each preliminary round will be decided by The Okinawa Karate World Tournament Executive Committee (hereinafter referred to as the “Executive Committee”) according to the number of participating competitors.

2. Categories/Events

The categories and events of the competition shall be as shown in the table below.

3. Entry Qualifications

(1) Age
a. Boys and Girls Ⅰ : shall be between 6 and 7 as of April 1, 2024.
b. Boys and Girls Ⅱ : shall be between 8 and 9 as of April 1, 2024.
c. Boys and Girls Ⅲ : shall be between 10 and 11 as of April 1, 2024.
d. Boys Ⅰ : shall be between 12 and 14 as of April 1, 2024.
e. Girls Ⅰ : shall be between 12 and 14 as of April 1, 2024.
(2) As a general rule, those who live in Okinawa (including Japanese citizens with foreign nationality and who live on a remote island connected to Okinawa’s main island with a bridge) at the time of application are eligible for participation in the preliminary rounds for Okinawa. Participants in the qualifying rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa must be residents outside the main island of Okinawa at the time of application. In addition, no multiple applications are allowed for both qualifying rounds.
(3) The participant may participate in one category of “Shuri-te kei/Tomari-te kei”, “Naha-te kei”, “Uechi-ryu kei” and “Kobudo (Bo)” category as well.
(4) Participants shall strive to manage their own health, such as having a medical check-up in advance (submitting a medical certificate, etc., if necessary.)

4. Implementation method

The competition will follow the 2nd Okinawa Karate World Junior Tournament Competition Rules and Regulations.

Ⅱ Preliminary Rounds for Okinawa

1. Schedule

2024 January 13(Sat), 14(Sun), 20(Sat), 21(Sun), 27(Sat), 28(Sun)
2024 February 3 (Sat), 4 (Sun)

2024 February 10 (Sat), 11 (Sun)
*Depending on the number of applications, preliminary rounds for Okinawa will be held within the above schedule.
*A separate schedule will be announced if the Okinawa Prefectural Qualifying Rounds cannot be held within the above schedule.

2. Venue

Okinawa Karate Kaikan (Reserve days: Okinawa Prefectural Budokan)

3. Competition Procedure

(1) The competition will be conducted by a scoring system.
(2) The event will be carried out in a group format, with the grouping of competitors and the order in which they will perform to be decided by the Executive Committee.
(3) The Executive Committee will determine the number of competitors able to advance to the second round and the main tournament.

4. Admission Fee

The admission fee is 3,000 yen (including entrance fee and accident insurance fee).
*The same fee shall be applied for participation in two categories.

5. Selection Method

The winners of the prefectural qualifying rounds are eligible to participate in the main tournament.

6. Registration Procedures

(1) In principle, application is possible through the official Registration entry form detailed below, and the application will be accepted when payment of the admission fee is confirmed.

The application deadline through the official website is 23:59 (JST) on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
(3) Change of competitors after the deadline will not be accepted.
(4) The entry fee will not be refunded if a participant cancels for personal reasons (including illness or death) after the deadline.
(5) In the event of cancellation after the deadline due to force majeure, such as natural disasters, the applicant will be refunded after bearing the bank transfer fee.

7. Registration of Competitors

Those planning to participate in the preliminary rounds for Okinawa must register for participation and receive the ID card.

Sunday, January 7, 2024, 10:00 – 18:00

c. Required documents:ID card/competitor number exchange slip

8. Registration of Coach

All coaches participating in the prefectural qualifiers must register at the venue on the day of preliminary rounds for Okinawa.

Ⅲ Preliminary Rounds for Overseas/Mainland Japan/Remote Islands of Okinawa

1. Date

Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10, 2024

2. Venue

Okinawa Convention Center

3. Competition Procedure

(1) The competition will be conducted by a scoring system.
(2) In the case of the event, where the number of competitors in each round is smaller than the number of competitors in the final round, preliminary rounds will not be carried out for that event.
(3) The event will be carried out in a group format, with the grouping of competitors and the order in which they will perform to be decided by the Executive Committee.
(4) The Executive Committee will determine the number of competitors able to advance to the second round and the main tournament.

4. Admission Fee

The admission fee is 3,000 yen (including entrance fee and accident insurance fee).
*The same fee shall be applied for participation in two categories.

The winners of the prefectural qualifying rounds for oversea/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa will be able to advance to the main tournament.

6. Registration Procedures

(1) In principle, application is possible through the official Registration entry form detailed below, and the application will be accepted when payment of the admission fee is confirmed.

(3) Change of competitors after the deadline will not be accepted.

7. Registration of Competitors

Those planning to participate in the preliminary rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa must register for participation and receive the ID card.
1.The day before the opening ceremony
 a. Date: Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 10:00 – 18:00
 b. Venue: Naha Airport Terminal
 c. Required documents: ID card/competitor number exchange slip
2. The day of the opening ceremony
 a. Date: Thursday, August 8, 2024, 10:00 – 12:00, and 16:00 – 18:00.
   *Excluding the hours of the opening ceremony.
 b. Venue: Okinawa Convention Center
 c. Required documents: ID card/competitor number exchange slip

8. Registration of Coach

All coaches participating in the preliminary rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa must register at the venue on the day of preliminary rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa.

Ⅳ Main Tournament

1. Date

Sunday, August 11 and Monday, August 12, 2024

2. Venue

Okinawa Convention Center

3. Competition Procedure

(1) The main tournament will be conducted by a single-elimination tournament system among the qualified competitors from the preliminary rounds for Okinawa and overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa, with winners determined by the scoring system.
(2) The single-elimination tournament matches will be decided by the Executive Committee based on the results of the preliminary rounds for Okinawa and overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa.

4. Registration of Competitors

Qualified competitors from the preliminary rounds for Okinawa planning to participate in the main tournament must register for participation and receive the ID card. It is unnecessary for those who advanced to the main tournament from the preliminary rounds for overseas/mainland Japan/remote islands of Okinawa to register again.

5. Supporting organizations

National government agencies, municipal government agencies, local media organizations, local economic organizations, etc. (tentative)

Supplementary provisions

These Tournament Competition Guidelines shall come into effect as from June 9, 2023.
