On “New Initiatives” at The 3rd Okinawa Karate World Festival Demonstration and Tournament
The Okinawa Karate World Tournament Executive Committee will endeavor to take the following approach to The 3rd Okinawa Karate World Festival Demonstration and Tournament, based on the achievements and challenges of previous events.
(1) The tournament will be held once every four years and will consist of a “Competition for boys and girls (aged 14 and under)” and a “Demonstration for
adults (aged 15 and over)”. It will be implemented from the 2026 fiscal year.
*Until the previous tournament, competitions for boys and girls, and adults were held alternately every two years as a general rule.
*We believe that holding a “Competition for boys and girls” and a “Demonstration for adults” at the same time will create synergistic effects for the entire event, increase motivation, and improve the efficiency of event management, leading to a sustainable event.
(2) Boys and girls will participate in competitive tournaments, while adults will participate in demonstration tournaments.
*Until the previous tournament, both the boys and girls, and the adults were held as competitive tournaments.
*Competitions for boys and girls encourage growth and continued training, while demonstrations for the adults show the spirit of martial arts and peace. Opportunities are provided for each level, which leads to the preservation of karate techniques and traditions.
(3) It is assumed that the week including the tournament period will be “Okinawa Karate Week”, and that exchanges will be promoted through training, such as opening the Okinawa Karate Kaikan free of charge, and that private-sector unique karate-related events (such as tours of places related to Okinawa karate) will also be held.
